| WHAT TO EXPECT |
Our classes are structured into four parts.
The instructor will ask everyone to "line up". The instructor stands at the front of the class and the students line up from left to right facing the instructor by rank. With more advanced students to the front left and newer students to the back right. I will then ask everyone to take a knee and I will say a short prayer. You are not required or expected to participate in anyway. You do not have to kneel or close your eyes if you do not want to. I do however ask that you are not disruptive. You can stand, stare at the wall, and do whatever you want to do. I humbly ask you to allow me this small indulgence to help me prepare for class. Warm-Up Once I’m finished preparing we will begin the warm up. Some of the excursuses will be new to you, try to watch the other students and mimic their behavior. If you have questions about specific excursuses please hold off until after class. The warm up consists of various cardio vascular exercises, strength training, & stretching. We encourage you to push yourself beyond what you think you can do since this is how we get stronger, however I do not know your limits only you do. If you have reached your limit before the rest of the class STOP. Do not hurt yourself! If you can't do everything that's okay, if you are committed to showing up in time you will get there, but don't try to climb the mountain on your first class. You don’t need permission to stop you can simply rest until you feel ready to continue. Don’t be self conscious about your ability, everyone of us in the class at some time was unable to do everything, you have to learn how to crawl before you learn to walk before you learn to run. Techniques Following the warm-up I will show some techniques. I will demonstrate and explain all the key points to performing the technique and do my best to break it down so that everyone can understand. Do not be shy. If you have questions ask, if you can’t see stand up and move to another place. Get as close as you want but do not be obstructive and always be courteous. You will then be paired off according to age, sex, and size to practice what you just saw. Again if you have any questions while trying to perform the move on your partner please ask. Drills and Additional Training Drills and Additional Training allow us to practice the movements against a resisting opponent to help us get a feel for how someone would move and react to various attacks, counters, and defenses. The purpose of these drills and training is not to win or submit your opponent but to utilize what you’ve learned and to help you identify holes in your game. It’s against a resisting opponent where we typically learn we aren’t doing something right that we might not realize during the technical portion of class. Post Train Stretch To aid in flexibility growth and to cool down, we will finish the class with a post workout stretch. Just follow the example of the instructor if you have questions please ask. The goal is to push yourself as far as you can comfortably go, it takes time to develop flexibility do not try to rush it. |
