2007 HALLOWEEN PARTY!

The first annual GCBJJ Halloween Party was a blast! As always I really enjoy spending time and hanging out with everybody outside of class. We started the evening with a fabulous McDonald's fest and followed up with a trip to the House of Torment, Austin's premier haunted attraction. Thanks to everyone who came out and a very special thanks to House of Torment, for having us. It is an excellent haunted house, best I've ever been to and I've been to a lot. We look forward to coming back next year!

MARCELLO MONTIERO SEMINAR   INDIANAPOLIS, IN - OCTOBER 11-13 2007

I'm heading up to Indianapolis to get my Purple Belt on October 12. Cost of the three day seminar is $50 and you will be expected to share in fuel costs. My sister has plenty of room so you just need to worry about your own food and splitting the gas. It's a 16hr drive. We'll leave on Wed night and head back either Sat night or real early Sunday. MARCELLO MONTIERO SEMINAR   DRIPPING SPRINGS, TX - FEBRUARY 2008

Our good friend João Crus is bringing down Marcello for a seminar in February of next year in Dripping Springs. If you were fortunate enough to come to the last Marcello seminar in July, you'll definately want to make sure you make it out to this one. DRIPPING SPRINGS TOURNAMENT RESULTS - 9/23/2007

Thanks to João Crus for inviting us down to participate in the tournament. We had a great time! Kyle Simank Kyle had an excellent performance at Saturday's tournament though unfortunately he did not medal. In his first match Kyle gave up about twenty pounds to his opponent but despite the weight disadvantage Kyle got the take down and dominated the first two-thirds of the round but unfortunately was not watching his base and was reversed and mounted in the last two minutes of the fight. He was unable to escape and lost the match by 4 points. He then fought again, this time not only giving up fifteen pounds but also fighting a much more experienced blue belt. Even though Kyle has only been training with us for two months he was able to reverse and keep pace with a blue belt and for the better part of the match the two stayed with in two points of one another. Kyle would score then his opponent. The two went back and fourth with Kyle taking the lead by two at one point in the match, unfortunately during an attempted guard pass Kyle got caught in an arm bar and was unable to escape loosing the match. Bryan Calfy In his first match Bryan reversed a take down attempt with a single leg scoring two points. Bryan maintained side control the majority of the match and at one point transitioned to a knee on stomach. He completely dominated his opponent and won by eight points. In his second match he was thrown and mounted early on, he fought hard and despite his opponent's best efforts to submit him with a kimura, Bryan defended for almost three minutes until finally the match ended with Bryan loosing by points but winning second place in the tournament overall. It was a great tournament, I am very happy with the performance of both of our fighters and proud of them for putting themselves out there especially after only training a very short while. They both fought people far more experienced and in Kyle's case much heavier and did extremely well. Congratulations to both of you!

DRIPPING SPRINGS TOURNAMENT - 9/22/2007

Marcello Montiero team tournament hosted by João Crus on September 22nd from 9:30 to 12:00pm. This is a friendly competition with our sister school in Driping Springs. If you're planning on going, we will meet at the school at 8 am and drive down together for the competition. The fee to compete is $35.00, which will help defer the costs of the tournament. This competition is for Marcello Montiero affiliates only.
